The Breast Cancer Alliance partnered with Greenwich merchants for the Go For Pink! fundraiser all day. A percentage of proceeds from purchases made at participating stores on Oct. 6 go to the Alliance, which provides seed monies for promising breast cancer research.
Stores and restaurants along popular shopping streets such as Greenwich Avenue and West Putnam Avenue have been participating in this fundraiser for several years. The stores are easy to spot — pink balloons are festooned near their entrances.
"We are a longtime supporter of Go For Pink," said Laura Gavey, manager at J. Crew on Greenwich Avenue. "Everybody's been touched by breast cancer and other cancers. This is a great way to support BCA."
"I'm all for it," said Alison Puleo, a customer at J. Crew. She was picking out clothing with the help of Gus Garrett, a Very Personal Stylist at J. Crew. Garrett had called Puleo to alert her to the Go For Pink! event.
Philly Smith, a manager at Sweaty Betty, enjoyed the morning preparations along Greenwich Avenue.
"It was really cool this morning to see everyone setting up up and down the avenue," she said. "The atmosphere was busy. The balloons and ribbons on the trees look nice and the weather was great."
Some businesses are extending their participation in Go For Pink throughout October. For more information, visit www.bcagoforpink.org.
